The School

for the "Hopesters"

Education alongside compassion.

The Institute of Hope is divided into three sections.  First, a school for pre-k through 7th grade.   Second, a school for older grades and third, a school for deaf children.  All of these are within walking distance to one another.

If a child can see it, touch it, feel it, they will have a multi-sensory learning that allows them to retain much better and enjoy learning much more.  The Institute of Hope integrates these techniques as much as possible and they also have a classroom pet rabbit.

HANDS-ON LEARNING

Loving and teaching the deaf is not new to Jan, the first orphan she served in Haiti was deaf, mute and had never attended school before.  His name was Christopher, the namesake of the ministry.  Currently, there are 2 deaf children attending school at the Institute of Hope and are a blessing to the school.

SERVING THE DEAF

Institute of Hope started in 2015 when Jan saw so many of the Hopesters with behavioral and learning issues.  Classes started small...and continue to remain small so there are more one-on-one learning opportunities.  Lots of hands-on learning takes place at Institute of Hope because kids learn by playing. Hopesters start pre-school at the age of 3 and classes continue to 8th grade.  There is also a deaf class with 2 deaf teachers and 6 deaf students, including Christopher...the “Christopher” that CHM is named after!! One of the most important things that Jan says to the teachers every year is this, “We are not preparing students for the Haitian exams or to pass the next grade level.  We are preparing them for eternity.”  Students at Institute of Hope learn many Bible verses and in many languages...French, Creole, English, and deaf sign language!!  We start our morning with prayer and take a break at 12:00 to pray again, and then we pray again before going back to the orphanage houses. Daniel was our inspiration to set up our day like this!!
